Neuralink is finally about to come out of a long silence, and finally intends to say more about the progress made on the development of the famous brain implant. Indeed, Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter that a new Neuralink “Show & Tell” conference will be held on October 31, 2022.

The billionaire did not go into details, however it is hoped that the company will carry out a first live demonstration of the capabilities of this implant. The latest demo took place in April 2021. It featured a monkey playing Pong by “thought”, thanks to the capabilities of the chip implanted in his brain.

The last chance conference for Neuralink?

Whatever, Neuralink plays big with this conference. Indeed, the company has not yet started testing on human subjects, as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has still not given its approval. To this must be added several important departures from the ranks of the company. In effect, six co-founders (out of the initial eight) of the project have decided to slam the door of Neuralink in recent weeks.

So that leaves only Elon Musk and engineer Dongjin “DJ” Seo. Indeed, Neuralink President Max Hodak left the company in May 2021, before to invest and become one of the executives in February 2022 of Neuralink’s main competitornamely the startup Synchron.

Remember that this adversary already has a head start on Elon Musk’s company, sinceit has received the green light from the FDA to proceed with human testing since July 2021. A first clinical trial carried out in Australia on four patients was conclusive, proving that the brain implant remained safe for the life of the subject one year after the intervention.

A few days ago, we also learned thatElon Musk reportedly approached Synchron officials. There would be no question of a takeover, the billionaire simply seeking to invest in turn in the startup. It must be said that the relationship between the boss of Tesla and the executives of Neuralink are rather tense, the billionaire judging that the company is not going fast enough in the development process.
