Never put your data at risk again by updating Windows: just do this

The software giant offers us several types of updates, of greater or lesser depth, but all of them very important. But despite the efforts of Microsoft, the problems related to these elements do not stop, one way or another. On the one hand, we find the updates that arrive on the second Tuesday of each month, and then the larger ones that are sent once or twice a year. While some users try to install everything as soon as possible, others try delay the process the most in time.

With everything and with this we must bear in mind that installing the patches and updates that Microsoft sends us for Windows, sooner or later it has to be carried out. This means that it is best to take certain precautions beforehand in order to avoid the possible inconveniences that a failure may cause after its installation. And it is that both at a functional and security level, these software elements that come to us periodically are very important.

It is true that we can block or delay its arrival for a few days or weeks, but after that time we will have to resign ourselves to its installation. However, we can take a very interesting measure that we are precisely going to talk about in these same lines.

How to create automatic restore points in Windows

Specifically, we refer to the possibility of create an automatic restore point just before receiving and installing those patches or updates. As you can imagine, this will allow us to take a step back and restore that created point in the event that we encounter any subsequent performance problems. In addition, since these are automated points, we will have to ignore the process and thus improve the installation experience of these elements.

To begin with, we must know that when creating a restore point, in principle, we only have write Restoration in the search box on the taskbar. This will give way to a new window where we only have to click on the Create button. We can assign a name, for example, with the date, in case we have several stored. This is something that we can carry out as many times as we want, although we must bear in mind that these restore points take up a certain amount of disk space.

But we can also automate this process, for example, using the windows task scheduler. In this way we will only have to create a new task by typing the name of the functionality again in the search engine so that the restore point is created on the second Tuesday of each month in the morning, for example. In this way, what we achieve is that this point is believed automatically before Microsoft sends its monthly updates.

restore point task scheduler

When creating the new task, it is recommended to set the desired dates, with all the permissions active, to place ourselves in the Actions tab. Click on New and we are going to add a script. To do this, in the Program or script field, type the following:

powershell.exe

Thus, the task will automatically start PowerShell, so, to create a restore point, in the Add arguments box we paste the following:

-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "Checkpoint-Computer -Description "Restore Point (Automatic)" -RestorePointType "MODIFY_SETTINGS""

Also, in the tab triggers we only have to configure the moment in which the task would be executed, that is, the second Tuesday of each month, first thing in the morning.
