Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, many users have reported issues with the joysticks on the Joy-Cons, the console’s two controllers. Nintendo has since allowed Switch owners to mail in their Joy-Cons for repair since this issue became widespread, but a new report has just surfaced that the repair process is hell for workshops.

With a total of 103 million copies sold since its release in early 2022, it is not no wonder the number of customers affected by the Joy-Con Drift issue is exploding. With the release of the Switch OLED, Nintendo finally tackled the problem, but had come to recognize that it was still present on the new generation.

Repair shops are going through hell because of the Joy-Con Drift

According to a report from Kotaku, repairs to the Joy-Cons were not done by Nintendo itself, but rather by another company called United Radio. A former supervisor claims that the volume of Joy-Cons entering the store reached thousands every week and was a very stressful experience, which ultimately led to high employee turnover and numerous repair errors. United Radio even had to set up a whole new workspace just for Joy-Con repair due to the high number of returns.

In the first year of launch, the repair hub was a direct replacement for the Joy-Cons, which relieved some of the strain on the staff. However, after 2018, the shop was forced to repair all the Joy-Cons it received and struggled to keep up. Nintendo expected the store to repair 90% of returned units within four daysregardless of the number of employees present.

In short, this report shows that the Joy-Con Drift is a major problem that Nintendo is far from having mastered. Some users have managed to solve the problem using a piece of paper, but this forces players to disassemble their controller. It nevertheless allowsavoid having to return your controller and not being able to play for long weeks.
