Noctua NH-D12L, 145mm high heatsink for Intel and AMD

Having a good heatsink is key to the health and performance of our PC. From here we have always recommended that it is worth a thousand times more to buy a good one for your processor than not a more powerful CPU. The limitation when buying them? The height that our box and base plate allow us. Especially in the Mini-ITX. The Noctua NH-D12L promises to do away with this problem.

One of the biggest problems when mounting a heatsink is the height with respect to the processor. The reason for this is that the vast majority of models on the market have a height of 158 mm. The problem? Many cases support at most 150mm or even 145mm in height. What the CPU does inside them cannot have a higher quality cooling.

In reality, there is nothing worse than not being able to have the PC’s processor well cooled, since not doing so affects its useful life and prevents it from reaching certain performance peaks. In addition, it can affect the rest of the components of a computer through thermal drowning, especially those of a compact nature where there is less space between them.

This is the Noctua NH-D12L heatsink

We are faced with an active type heatsink with only 145mm tall, which means that we can install it in a greater number of PC cases than other models. Although its compatibility does not end there, it is designed to work both on CPU with LGA1200 and LGA1700 socket of Intel as in AMD AM4 and AM5. In other words, we can use it to cool not only any of the current Ryzen, but also the future 7000 series and later. In the same way, we can also use it with the Intel Core from the tenth to the thirteenth generation As for RAM, the Noctua ensures that the placement of its NH-D12L does not conflict with the position of the modules, allowing the use of RAM with its own heatsink.

As it is an active heatsink, it obviously has to contain a fan and in this case the Noctua NH-D12L is equipped with a fan of the type NF-A12x25r type PWR. A custom-made fan for the heatsink with dimensions of 93x83mm instead of the classic 120 x 105 mm of conventional fans. This being the secret of achieving a lower height compared to the rest of the CPU Coolers on the market. In addition, it comes equipped with what is necessary to install a second fan of the same type, in case we believe that the cooling it provides to the processor is not enough.

It is therefore ideal for mounting on SFF (Small Form Factor) type cases such as Mini-ITX. Of course, you must make sure that the tower that you plan to acquire or that you have will support it in height. Since we are not dealing with a low profile heatsink. So you should be attentive to the specifications of the PC box where you are going to install it.
