Nothing’s first smartphone would be presented next month

The manufacturer Nothing could unveil its first smartphone next month. It will be a homecoming for Carl Pei, creator of the company and who also co-founded OnePlus!

Nothing has been working on developing a smartphone for a year, according to the site TechCrunch. Visiting the MWC show in Barcelona, Carl Pei is said to have presented a prototype to several leaders in the telephony industry, including Qualcomm. The details are still very vague, but the device would have reminiscences of Ear(1), the first product of Nothing.

Back to smartphones for Carl Pei

More specifically, this smartphone would take up “ transparency elements ”, which are the hallmark of the manufacturer’s headphones launched last year. Headphones that are very successful, thanks to their qualities (active noise cancellation, original design) and above all, a low price of 99 €.

This first smartphone is all the more expected since Carl Pei is not just anyone: he is the one who co-founded OnePlus, which has become one of the heavyweights in the sector with an original proposal based on a very good quality/price ratio. . The design of such a device was no longer really debated, since the acquisition by Nothing of the Essential brand which had launched the PH-1 smartphone.

A certain number of former Essential employees have come together to create a new manufacturer, OSOM, which plans to market… a new smartphone this year! The OV1 will be a premium Android terminal, with a chassis combining stainless steel, ceramic and titanium. On the back, the triangular-shaped photo block (in titanium, like the volume and ignition buttons) houses two 42 and 12 megapixel sensors (16 megapixels on the front).

The OV1 runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen.1 chip, and it will be sold in the second half of the year.” under $1,000 “. Will Nothing want to play on the same pitch, or should we expect a very different offer?
