Now it’s easier than ever to share files between Android and your PC

Sharing files between a Mac and an iPhone or iPad is a very quick and easy process thanks to AirDrop technology, a technology that has been in use for more than 10 years. However, if we look for a similar experience between Windows and Android, we have to resort to third-party applications and sometimes even checkout. At least until now.

Google allows you to share files in a very fast and simple way between other Android devices through Nearby Share. The same is true for computers managed by Windows. However, when it comes to sharing files between a computer and a mobile quickly and easily, the process is very unintuitive, although it is possible using the Mobile Link application, a native Windows application that we must install on the Android smartphone with the one we want to share content.

Nearby Share by Google now available for Windows

Google announced last year that it was working towards share files between windows and android It was a quick and easy task. 6 months after this announcement, the search giant has just released a public beta feature for users to start testing the functionality that allows easy file sharing between Windows and Android, a beta that is unfortunately not available in Spain, although it will be a matter of time before it arrives.

Like AirDrop, Google’s Near Share feature allows you to set your visibility mode, that is to say, that we can show or hide our presence to the devices in our environment, limit it to the contacts that we have in the agenda, to our devices or nobody. In this way, we will prevent anyone in our environment from sending us any type of malicious software or content that interests us.

Nearby Share

With this function, we can not only send independent files, but also allows us to send folders complete, a function that is not available in the solution that Apple offers to all users of its products through AirDrop and that, without a doubt, can be very useful when making backup copies.

Nearby Share works the same as when we want to share any type of content from our mobile. We just have to select the function and select the device we want to send it to, as long as it is in our immediate environment, since it uses both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks to send the content.

In order to use the Android Nearby Share function, the first thing we need is a terminal that is managed by Android 6 or higher. If we meet that requirement, we just have to download and install the application for Windows, an application that, as we have mentioned above, is currently in beta phase and is not available from Spain, although it will be a matter of weeks before Google expands this test to more countries.
