Nubia renews its gaming smartphones

Nubia unveils its new gaming smartphones, the Red Magic 7 and 7 Pro. Presented in China, they are soon arriving in the rest of the world.

Still unknown in our region, Nubia specializes in smartphones dedicated to gaming. A successful orientation since the various models in the Red Magic range are regularly cited as ambitious outsiders. Facing the Asus ROG Phone or Xiaomi’s Black Shark, Nubia’s devices are embarking on a real race for (raw) power. In China, the manufacturer has just presented its new Red Magic 7 and Red Magic 7 Pro and announces that they will soon be launched internationally.

Nubia’s latest gaming smartphones feature top-notch components; starting with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC from Qualcomm. It comes with 6.8-inch AMOLED screens displaying in Full HD+ (20:9 format) and a unique cooling system. In its press release, the brand describes its ICE 8.0 as a nine-layer system with a cooling plate of 41,279 mm², which is 30% more than the older generation. Added to this is an internal fan capable of reaching 20,000 rpm with better flow rates. The manufacturer mentions an improvement of around 35% and a noise level of 28 decibels.

Still according to Nubia, its presence allows the processor to be cooled by 16°C and avoids experiencing a drop in performance.

To support Qualcomm’s powerful SoC, Nubia adds LPDDR5 RAM in large quantities (8 GB to 18 GB). The firm’s ambition is to offer top-notch performance; and its two devices have some differences.

Different screens and batteries

The Red Magic 7 Pro stands out with the presence of a “Red Core 1” chip dedicated to gaming functions. It brings improvements to the side buttons, vibrations or lighting and sound effects. This variant also has a camera under the screen, which has an impact on the screen.

The Red Magic 7 Pro panel has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, with a touch sampling rate of 960 Hz. The Red Magic 7 has a screen with a refresh rate of 165 Hz, but is limited at a touch sampling rate of 720 Hz. These differences can be explained by the presence of the camera under the screen for the Pro version. Note also a maximum brightness of 700 nits for the 7 and 600 nits for the 7 Pro, as well as a contrast of 1,000,000:1.

Another difference concerns the battery capacity. The standard model has a 4,500 mAh battery with 125 W fast charging; while the Pro variant has a 5,000mAh battery with 135W fast charging. Nubia cites a full charge in 17 minutes for the Red Magic 7 and 15 minutes for the 7 Pro.

The RedMagic OS 5.0 overlay, based on Android 12, powers Nubia’s gaming smartphones.

With their impressive technical data sheets, the new representatives of the Red Magic range do not leave you indifferent. They opt for a design “catchy” responding to the codes of the gaming universe; with an RGB or RGB LED bar for light effects.

An international launch on February 22

The Red Magic 7 comes in Cyber ​​Neon, Night Knight, and Deuterium Transparent Edition versions. The first two are displayed in China at a price of 3,999 yuan (about 555 euros excluding tax) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The transparent model has 12 GB RAM and 256 GB, as well as a different design, for a price of 4,899 yuan (around 680 euros excluding VAT).

Regarding the Red Magic 7 Pro, it is available in Cybern Neon, Polar Black Night, and Deuterium Blade Transparent editions. Again, the light effects are different depending on the version. Count 4,799 yuan for a 12 + 128 GB version and 5,299 yuan (about 735 euros excluding VAT) for the Deuterium Blade Transparent with 12 + 256 GB. Finally, a model with 18 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is marketed at 7,499 yuan (about 1,040 euros excluding tax).

Nubia will formalize the international versions of its new series on February 22. The Red Magic 7 and 7 Pro will go on sale March 10.
