Nuria Ávalos, new vice president of the Spanish Gaia-X hub

The Gaia-X Spain Association, the European hub for the data economy and artificial intelligence, has appointed Nuria Ávalos vice president representing Indiathe Spanish artificial intelligence association for industry, made up of eight large Spanish companies (Repsol, Gestamp, Navantia, Técnicas Reunidas, Telefónica, Microsoft and Airbus), of which Ávalos is the general director.

The board has noted that Gaia-X is “a key project to promote the data economy in Spain, and achieve a solid and inclusive ecosystem on data sharing at a national level, which integrates the public and private sectors, research and technological development centers, large companies, as well as SMEs, micro-enterprises and startups. For this, it is essential that large companies want to be tractors to promote and be an example in the use of data”.

Gaia-X Spain, which was established last Friday, March 18, in Talavera of the Queen (Toledo)has become the hub that will lead the development of the data economy in Spain and that will allow the national business fabric to be promoted, with the creation of open data spaces to promote their safe sharing.

The first meeting of the Board of Directors of Gaia-X Spain, Held on April 25 in a hybrid format, it has had the participation of the 22 members that make up the association, among whom was the newly appointed vice president, along with the other two vice presidents: Antonio Cimorra from AMETIC and Dolores Ordóñez from ‘Anysolution’ , as well as Juan Alfonso Ruiz Molina, Minister of Finance and Public Administrations and president of Gaia-X Spain. Also, Francisco Javier Antón from ‘Cluster Big Data Madrid’, has been appointed secretary, and José Miguel Alonso from Cruz Roja, treasurer.

Currently, Gaia-X Spain already has with nearly 200 organizations that are involved and is positioned as a strategic project that aims to lead the European scene, supported and promoted by the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence.
