NVIDIA Shield and a great little feature

NVIDIA published yesterday, for users of NVIDIA Shield devices, an update of its firmware, the shield Experience Upgrade v9.1, which can now be downloaded and installed by all its users and which, among its novelties, includes a function that, personally, has substantially increased my interest in getting an NVIDIA Shield. I could say that it is something that I have been waiting for for years in televisions and devices, but I would lie, because in reality it is something that I think should have been generalized decades ago.

And I know that it is not a minority wish, but something that I have talked about on a thousand occasions with as many people, always reaching the conclusion that we all wanted something like that. And it is that, identified with the name of «Night listening mode«, we find a function that, when activated, will automatically regulate the volume of what we are playing to normalize it and thus avoid surprises.

NVIDIA Shield and a great little feature

To put it in context and to better understand this new NVIDIA Shield feature, have you ever seen a movie or a series with the control in your hand to be able to raise and lower the volume constantly? From the thunderous sounds of explosions and other sound effects to whispered rather than spoken dialogue, the audio range of many audiovisual productions can be a headache if, for whatever reason, we want everything to sound reasonably smooth.

Well, that is exactly what this new NVIDIA Shield firmware feature offers, automatically adjusting the volume of what we are listening to, as long as HDMI is used for the audio signal, to enjoy normal sound. Either by not disturbing cohabitants and/or neighbors, or even if we like to resort to movies and series to fall asleep, we can do it with the peace of mind of knowing that we are not going to wake up startled, ten minutes later, due to an effect Sound.
