NVIDIA will not have RTX 3050 in the low-end, this will be its GPU against AMD

The low-end market for gaming graphics cards has not had a model with one of its RTX GPUs on the part of the green brand so far, it is true that the RTX 3050 Ti have appeared in laptops, on the desktop we still have GTX 16. This means not having access to DirectX 12 Ultimate technologies on NVIDIA GPUs. Well, against all odds they have decided to return from the grave to the RTX 2060, in a new variant never seen before of this graphics card.

What is the reason for the resurrection of the GeForce RTX 2060?

After the launch of the RTX 3050 (Ti) in notebooks the logic would be that they would launch a graphics card based on the same GPU for the desktop. Of course, Jensen Huang does not like to lose even the marbles and since he doesu RTX 2060 gives better performance and they have a good inventory of them waiting to be sold, they have made the decision that instead of selling an RTX 3050 Ti for desktop they will relaunch their RTX 2060, but with a small change: 12 GB of VRAM.

And it is because now the 2 GB GDDR6 chips are available NVIDIA can launch a version of this graphics card with twice the memory than previous models, since the version that was on the market was 6 GB.

The other reason is in the fact that while the RTX 3050 Ti would have been produced in Samsung, thereby removing wafers from the rest of the NVIDIA RTX 30 range, in the case of the RTX 2060 its GPU is manufactured under the node of “ 12 nm “from TSMC. So being manufactured in a different foundry and process this does not affect the inventory of your next generation graphics cards with GeForce Ampere architecture.

What will the 12GB RTX 2060 cost?

NVIDIA has not said anything about the price of the return of the Turing architecture to our PCs, but certain rumors suggest that it would be the answer against the AMD Radeon RX 6600, which will be on sale in a few days. So it should be around $ 300 approximately, but this is nothing more than guesses that circulate on the network and we have to bear in mind that not even NVIDIA has confirmed that it is going to launch this 12GB RTX 2060 and therefore much less its price.

One thing we are sure of is that although the mining boom has left them completely dry in stocks of the RTX 30, with the RTX 20 it seems that they have some surplus left in the warehouses and we are based on the fact that a part of the NVIDIA HX CPM range are based on Turing family GPUs, especially the first two models with the ability to output 30 MH / s and 40 MH / s that make use of the same graphics processor as the RTX 2060, the TU106.

So NVIDIA is sitting in front of a large number of units of a graphics chip that it has in its warehouses, has tried to sell for mining and now it will relaunch again as a low-end gaming graphics card. In any case, let’s not forget that in benchmarks like 3DMark Time Spy it is capable of scoring 7523 points, a figure above 7085 points which seems to have released AMD’s RX 6600 under the same benchmark. As for the discarded RTX 3050 Ti for desktop, we do not know what its performance would have been, but its laptop version obtains a performance of 5356 points.
