Obi-Wan Kenobi finally has a release date on Disney+

We were impatiently waiting for it, Disney+ has just shared the launch date of its next Star Wars series. Obi-Wan Kenobi is coming to our screens next spring.

Good news for lovers of lightsaber and intergalactic epic, Obi-Wan Kenobi finally has a release date on Disney+. The series, undoubtedly the most awaited of the new Star Wars vintage, will arrive on our screens on May 25th. For the occasion, the platform has shared the first official poster, which takes us to Tatooine, where he lives recluse after his defeat against Anakin Skywalker.

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in the cast

The plot should thus transport us a few years later Revenge of the Sith, while Obi-Wan watches over the young Luke Skywalker from afar. During his new adventures, the character should come across his former Padawan, now transformed into Darth Vader. He will again be played by Hayden Christensen, who played him for two opuses in the 2000s.

Joel Edgerton will return to the role of Owen Lars, Luke’s uncle and therefore Anakin Skywalker’s half-brother. He will be killed at the start of Episode 4, when the Skywalker Farm is destroyed by Stormtroopers. Rupert Friend (Homeland) should meanwhile play The Grand Inquisitor. Kumail Nanjiani (The Eternals), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Swagger) and Sung Kang (Fast and Furious 9) are also announced, but their roles remain under wraps for now.

A satisfying comeback for Ewan McGregor

During an interview for Forbes, Ewan McGregor confided in his return to the Star Wars saga. A rather gratifying reunion with the character, according to the actor. “Oh my god, well I loved playing it again. Putting myself in my place and now doing an Obi-Wan Kenobi series for these fans makes me really happy.” He also seems rather confident about how this new adventure will be received by the public. He adds thus: “They crafted a really great story. I think people are going to like it.”

See you on May 25 on Disney + to discover Obi-Wan Kenobi. By then, we will undoubtedly be entitled to real first images, through a trailer or a teaser. Also remember that this Wednesday, February 9, viewers were able to discover the last episode of the series The Boba Fett Book.

Later this year, the platform also has other surprises in store for us in the Star Wars galaxy, and in particular on the side of RogueOne. Disney+ will broadcast Andor, dedicated to the character portrayed by Diego Luna in Gareth Edwards’ film. It doesn’t have a specific date yet.
