Official AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT: 1080p in 60 FPS compatible FSR from 210 €

AMD announces the official launch of the RX 6500 XT, an all-new affordable graphics card for small budgets. Based on the manufacturer’s RDNA 2 architecture, this GPU displays sufficient performance to offer 1080p at more than 60 frames per second on the most recent games. In addition, the graphics card is also compatible with FidelityFX Super Resolution, the equivalent of Nvidia’s DLSS.

On this Wednesday, January 19, 2022, AMD announces the official launch of the RX 6500 XT, a newcomer to its latest line of RX 6000 XT gaming GPUs. Like Nvidia with the GeForce RTX 3050, this GPU is intended above all for the most modest budgets and players who are not very demanding in terms of performance.

Indeed, you should not expect 4K with graphics options pushed to the maximum with this graphics card. However, it will be more than enough to offer 1080p at more than 60 frames per second on many recent titles. Thus, AMD promises in high settings in 1080p up to 108 FPS on Resident Evil Village, 105 FPS on Back For Blood or even 78 FPS on Halo Infinite.

According to AMD, the RX 6500 XT displays “the fastest clock frequencies” in a gaming card with a gaming frequency of 2610 MHz and a clock boost of up to 2815 MHz. Let’s see together the other technical data of AMD’s latest GPU:

  • Computing units and ray accelerators: 16
  • Compute performance in maximum half-precisions: 11.53 TFLOPs
  • Stream processors: 1024
  • Max Pixel Fill Rate : Up to 90.1 gp/s
  • Maximum single precision computing performance: 5.77 TFLOPs
  • Texture units: 64
  • OR: 32
  • Number of transistors: 5.4B

On the memory side, it will be necessary to rely on GDDR6 RAM and 232 GB/s bandwidth thanks to technology AMD Infinity Cache. As a reminder, this is 16 MB of last-level cache memory integrated into the GPU, which allows reduce latency times and overall power consumption.

Among the other on-board technologies, we also note the presence of the AMD Smart Access Memory, which unlocks increased performance if the player is using an AMD Ryzen processor and an AMD 500-series motherboard. AMD Radeon Anti-Lag also answers the call to decrease the input-to-display response time.

Finally, let’s conclude this presentation by confirming compatibility with FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s DLSS. The idea here is to generate a high resolution image of each frame, while providing the necessary computing power to the graphics card to display a smoother image (and gain FPS by extension).

As stated by AMD, the Radeon RX 6500 XT is now available from the brand’s worldwide partner resellers, such as ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE, XFX and Yeston at suggested price of 210 €. We obviously hope that buyers will indeed be able to find it at this price. But in France, the RX 6500 XT is already displayed at 350 € on certain sites… What do you think of this new Radeon RX 6500 XT? Tell us in the comments.
