On Molotov, access to M6 group channels becomes chargeable

A week after his conviction for “parasitism”, the platform finds an agreement with M6. The group’s channels are now only accessible through paid offers.

A week ago, Molotov was ordered by the Paris court to pay 7 million euros to the M6 group. Accused of “parasitism” and of “Counterfeit”, the French start-up now under the aegis of FuboTV was also to stop broadcasting the various channels of the group. However, it seems that the two parties have reached an agreement.

As a reminder, the two firms were bound by a contract authorizing the platform to stream M6 channels until March 31, 2018. Once the latter expired, Molotov should logically stop broadcasting. However, the company continued to offer the bouquet to its users at no additional cost.

W9, M6, 6ter and Gulli now chargeable

Since Friday, December 17, all unencrypted channels of the M6 group are only accessible via a paid subscription. Concretely, to be able to watch the programs offered by the group, you will have to subscribe to one of the formulas offered, such as Molotov Plus for example (3.99 euros per month). This gives access to all M6 replays, bonuses as well as the cloud recording feature. Another formula at 9.99 euros, called Molotov Extended also allows you to enjoy M6 channels, as well as 107 TNT channels on 4 simultaneous screens.

TF1 could follow

Bouygues could also follow in M6’s footsteps and ban the broadcasting of its channels on Molotov. Capital informed us last week that the group had also sued the platform. Here again, it is the lack of agreement since 2019 that is at the heart of the discord. Bouygues claims 5 million euros annually for the use of its channels, which the French platform categorically refuses.

Molotov is therefore largely in turmoil, which offered access to free French channels from any region of the world, at no extra charge. Will the firm be able to recover?
