We have known for several months now that OnePlus is working on a new high-end smartphone in its 10 series, the OnePlus 10 Ultra. The Chinese manufacturer had filed a patent at the beginning of the year presenting a smartphone with a design almost identical to the OnePlus 10 Pro, but which was equipped with a periscope sensor on the back.

Since its creation, OnePlus has never opted for a periscope sensor in its smartphones. However, its main competitors such as Xiaomi, Samsung and even Vivo have been using such sensors in their high-end smartphones for several years now. The OnePlus 10 Pro must therefore be satisfied with a telephoto lens with a 3X optical zoombut that should change soon thanks to the new model.

The OnePlus 10 Ultra will be OnePlus’ first smartphone with a periscope

According to the most recent leaks, the OnePlus 10 Ultra will be well equipped with a periscope offering 5X optical zoom. OnePlus would therefore finally align itself with other Android smartphones in this price segment. New renderings have been unveiled, and these specify how the smartphone should look like.

At first glance, one might think that the OnePlus 10 Ultra is identical to the OnePlus 10 Pro, but we notice that the periscope sensor on the back of the camera is quite different from the telephoto lens, since the lens adopts a rectangular shape. The smartphone is presented here in two colors, white and green. OnePlus had also explained at length why white phones are rarer than others.

In addition to its periscope sensor, the OnePlus 10 UItra should stand out from its little brother thanks to its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip. Engraved by TSMC, this one should show less energy-consuming than the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1and could allow manufacturers to offer Android smartphones that overheat less.

The rest of the technical sheet should be identical, but we will have to wait a few more weeks to be sure. The OnePlus 10 Ultra will launch this summerbut it remains to be determined whether OnePlus will release it outside of China.
