OnePlus 11: the smartphone will benefit from 4 years of Android updates, it’s confirmed

Just days away from the launch of the new OnePlus 11 in Europe, the CEO of the company, Pete Lau, has confirmed that the smartphone will be followed for at least 5 years in terms of updates.

OnePlus 11

After the OnePlus 11 launched in China last year, the manufacturer promised to offer 4 years of Android updates, but we weren’t sure if this would also affect smartphones in Europe. In a tweet, ahead of the official presentation scheduled for February 7, Pete Lau confirmed the good news.

As with Samsung since its Galaxy S22 and more recently Oppo for its 2023 smartphones, the OnePlus 11 will therefore benefit from 4 Android updates, but that’s not all. The Chinese manufacturer will also deploy security patches for 5 years. OnePlus therefore joins Oppo and Samsung in the list of manufacturers that offer the longest follow-up on Android.

The OnePlus 11 will receive Android 17

By committing to deploying 4 years of major Android updates, OnePlus therefore promises to update its OnePlus 11 to Android 17, which will be released in 2026. This is therefore much more than most other smartphone manufacturers. , and especially from Google. To everyone’s surprise, the company behind Android only rolls out 3 years of updates to its own Pixels. Nevertheless, it is hoped that Google will change its software tracking policy when the next high-end Pixel 8s are released at the end of the year.

Supporting smartphones for longer has become an important issue for many manufacturers, who rely on long follow-ups to make their smartphones more ecological. By rolling out more updates, manufacturers hope users will keep their devices longer, thereby reducing e-waste.

Apple and Samsung, for their part, are going even further by removing the charger from their boxes, but Oppo and OnePlus have not yet taken the plunge. We should find a 100W charger in the boxes of the OnePlus 11, as well as future Find X6 and X6 Pro from Oppo. It remains for the moment to know at what prices the smartphones will be offered, the prices still not having leaked.
