OnePlus folding phone could look like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold

No, OnePlus’ foldable screen smartphone should not be a simple copy of the Oppo Find N2, and could even be inspired by the Galaxy Z Fold.

At the beginning of February, OnePlus formalized the launch of a folding smartphone for the third quarter of 2023. Few details were then shared on the technical characteristics or the design of this device, and it was feared that it would not it’s just a rebranded Oppo Find N2. Since the absorption of OnePlus by OPPO, the brand has indeed been accustomed to the fact. And given that the Oppo Find N2 is not available in Europe, one could think that it would finally come out in our countries under the name OnePlus.

But the famous Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station comes to reassure us on this subject. According to him, the OnePlus folding smartphone would be equipped “of a large screen in 2K definition”. The display of the Oppo Find N2 being in Full HD+, we can conclude that the foldable screen OnePlus will not be a copy of the Find N2. This higher definition can mean two things: either OnePlus will offer a better resolution on its mobile, or the manufacturer is planning a larger screen size. In the second case, we would have a folding smartphone whose design could be similar to that of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range.

A competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 5?

We would then be entitled this summer to a direct confrontation between OnePlus’ new foldable screen device and the probable Galaxy Z Fold 5. The first city is expected in the third quarter, between July and September, when Samsung is still marketing its Z Folds at the end of August. Could the South Korean manufacturer finally be dealing with a real competitor? The Oppo Find N2 is an interesting smartphone, but is not sold here, and does not really play in the same court with a 7.1-inch internal foldable screen, compared to 7.6 inches for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Motorola no longer has the success of yesteryear and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is reserved for the Asian market.

OnePlus therefore has a hand in a booming foldable segment, but still largely in the minority. The brand should also present a folding smartphone à la Galaxy Z Flip, but no date has yet been announced.
