Only 33% of 100% teleworkers receive financial compensation

The legislation establishes that regular remote work is that which is provided, in a reference period of three months, a minimum of 30% of the day (at least one day and a half a week, understanding a full day) or the equivalent proportional percentage based on the duration of the employment contract and that the companies must cover or compensate the expenses, according to what is established in the agreement or in collective agreements.

The truth is that not all of them are doing it, according to the results of the survey carried out by InfoJobs, on Habits and Resources associated with Teleworking, only one in three (31%) of those who work 100% remotely receive some type of of remuneration, a percentage that is reduced to almost half (17%) for employees with hybrid modality. of those who receive financial compensation for incurring new expenses, the most common is that it is only between 10 and 49 euros, with 59% of the mentions.

The Teleworking Law also determines that employees have the right to have companies provide them with the necessary means and equipment for the development of its activity. However, 20% of the teleworkers surveyed state that their company has not provided them with the basic work tool: the computer, and 7% state that they have not received any material to carry out their work.

The office, more necessary than a year ago

Companies continue to theorize about how to get the job done and the role of offices. In this sense, half of the employed population considers that offices are necessary (52%), which represents an increase of 5 percentage points compared to last year. On the other hand, the perception of the need for changes in workplaces is reduced by 10 percentage points. The most demanded by the workers continue to be the application of flexible hours, with 48% of the mentions, 11% less than in 2021; and the increase of portable digital devices, with 32% (compared to 45% registered in 2021).

On the other hand, around 40% of the employed population considers that their productivity is the same, whether from home or in the office, and 54% would choose the hybrid model as the ideal when working.

Remote work motivates exercise…

The InfoJobs survey also analyzes to what extent the arrival of telecommuting in the world of work affects the sedentary lifestyle. The lack of regular physical activity is a problem associated with the way of living, consuming and working in advanced societies like ours. According to a survey carried out by the Spanish Society of Obesity (SEEDO), 47% of Spaniards spend between 1 and 5 hours a day sitting, lying down or inactive -not counting the hours of sleep-, and up to 31% do so between 5 and 8 hours a day.

The results indicate that 31% of workers with a remote work model perform more low-performance physical exercise, compared to 25% of those who have face-to-face work. Also, 22% of the telecommuters indicate that they have increased high-performance physical exercise in their daily lives, 7% more than those who attend work in person (15%).

Regarding the reasons for doing more exercise, the professionals of both models highlight the motivation and the possibility of de-stress and/or disconnect, with more than half of the mentions in both cases. However, those who telecommute refer to a greater extent to work flexibility, with 37% compared to only 14% of those who work in person. In addition, 34% indicate that the fact of teleworking itself is the main reason for doing more physical exercise.

Regarding the main reasons why professionals spend less time on sport, compared to the pre-pandemic period, loss of exercise routine appear (with 38% in teleworkers, compared to 37% of face-to-face workers), the increase in the workload (30% vs. 29%) and the lack of desire (24% in telework vs. 35% in face-to-face workers). It should be noted that the employees surveyed with a remote work model justify to a greater extent having changed their place of residence, with 9%, compared to 1.5% of those who attend the workplace daily in person.

… but sedentary lifestyle increases during the working day

In this sense, people who carry out their professional work from home spend 88% of their day sitting, while they only stand the remaining time, 12%. Moreover, according to the survey, those professionals with hybrid work confirm that they spend more time sitting down on days when they telecommute (77%), with a difference of 14%, compared to the rest of the days (63%).

On the other hand, there is a greater balance in the day in those who do face-to-face work (with 49% of the time sitting, compared to 51% standing). These data make sense if you take into account that not all jobs that are done standing up allow telecommuting.
