A story of format and design

While the Korean competitor offers a foldable screen in 4: 3 format in portrait, the new Oppo Find N offers a 7.1-inch (1792 × 1920 pixels) foldable screen with a ratio of 8.4: 9 in landscape format, which will allow users to not have to turn their device to take advantage of the longer length for multimedia content. When folded, the Oppo Find N offers an external screen of 5.49 inches (1972 × 988 pixels) in 18: 9 format, which gives a most classic format for a smartphone while the Korean competitor offers an all-round experience. lengthways. With this format, Oppo suddenly offers a more compact folding smartphone and undoubtedly better prepared for mobility.

On the design side, there is a photo unit integrated into the shell as it had been on the Oppo Find X3 Pro. Moreover, the external screen and the “back” are in Gorilla Glass Victus. The Oppo Find N will be available in three colors with a black, white and purple version. All of them offer frosted glass and finally, like its direct competitor, the power-on and / or standby button incorporates a physical fingerprint reader. The size is 132.6x73x15.9mm folded and 132.5 × 140.2x8mm unfolded, all with a weight of 275g.

A Serene screen and the features

As for the foldable screen itself, it is a Serene Display screen made up of 12 layers including a 0.03 mm Flexion UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) layer (against 0.6mm on a conventional screen). According to Oppo, the screen has been tested to fold up no less than 200,000 times. It is an AMOLED LTPO display with a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. In terms of brightness, we reach a maximum of 1000 nits. For the external screen, we remain on a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Because the Oppo Find N will be available on December 23, 2021 in China, it ships a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB or 512GB of internal memory in UFS 3.1, stereo speakers, support Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6 and a 4500mAh battery with SuperVOOC fast charging at 33W which recharges 55% of the battery in 30 minutes and 100% in 70 minutes. The Oppo Find N also offers AirVOOC wireless charging at 15W and reverse charging at 10W.

A hinge that stands the test of everyday life?

We still remember, when Samsung announced its very first Galaxy Fold, everyone paid attention to the hinge and rightly so since it was the sensitive part of a folding smartphone. Also, Oppo tried not to reproduce the same mistakes of its Korean competitor. Thus, the hinge of the Oppo Find N is made up of 136 components with great precision in order to allow a fluid use and without a predefined position. Suddenly, the hinge allows the smartphone to be unfolded with any angle between 50 ° and 120 ° (FlexForm mode).

According to Oppo, the foldable screen offers a fold 80% less visible compared to the competition but above all, with its design, there is no more space once the smartphone is folded, which is still not the case. Galaxy Z Fold for example. Needless to say, Oppo has worked on optimizing classic applications like Notes or the camera in order to make the most of this new foldable screen.

In picture

On the photo side, we are in 2021 and we can no longer call ourselves a high-end smartphone if we do not take photos. Also, the Oppo Find N offers a block made up of three cameras. The main camera offers a 50 Megapixel Sony IMX 766 sensor while there is an ultra wide angle with a 16 Megapixel sensor and a telephoto with a 13 Megapixel sensor. There are otherwise two front cameras (one outside and one inside) with a 32 Megapixel sensor.

Obviously, the interface of the photo application has been revised to take advantage of the FlexForm mode of the hinge. You can put your smartphone down and start a timelapse without needing a tripod or the like.

Pricing and availability

No pricing yet and availability only for China from December 23. Not a word on a possible release in France but we are confident of an announcement for Europe at the beginning of next year.
