Oppo’s headphones rival the AirPods Pro

Hybrid architecture, active noise reduction, multipoint Bluetooth, wireless charging… The Oppo Enco X2 arrive with solid advantages.

Oppo has great ambitions for the start of the year and makes it known. In addition to presenting three Find series smartphones and a Watch Free connected watch, the Chinese manufacturer is interested in the market for true wireless headphones. Now essential for smartphone manufacturers, the segment sees new references arriving every week. The objective is therefore to stand out in order to exist and Oppo has every intention of competing with the best. The brand returns with a second version of the Enco X, logically called Enco X2.

This new pair of headphones builds on the foundations laid by its predecessors, taking advantage in particular of the collaboration with Dynaudio. The Danish audio giant has co-developed the SuperDBEE acoustic system which aims to deliver high definition sound. The Enco X2s are based on an architecture comparable to that of the first Enco Xs and use coaxial loudspeakers. Inside, they carry 11m dynamic transducers and 6mm balanced-diaphragm drivers.

Listening in high definition

According to Oppo, new features come with a 0.0095mm bass unit that adopts a low-distortion ultrasonic vibration system. There is also a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragm cast in gold solvent and 0.033mm DCAA voice coils.

For the Chinese manufacturer, these improvements guarantee “instantaneous transient response and extremely low distortion” ; compared to the Enco X. It also promises an improved tweeter with a frequency response of up to 40 kHz. Oppo’s new flagships are also 31% lighter than their predecessor (4.7 g per headset). The Enco X2 are Hi-Res certified and support the LHDC 4.0 transmission protocol. They are also compatible with AAC, SBC or LC3 for a speed of up to 900 kbps in 24 bits/96 kHz (LHDC 4.0).

Noise reduction, fast and wireless charging, multipoint Bluetooth

Of course, these true wireless headphones have an active noise reduction function. It accompanies the passive isolation offered by the in-ear headphones and promises active attenuation reaching 45 dB up to 4 kHz. An ambitious speech when you know that many models are satisfied with an active noise reduction of up to 25 dB. However, the speech is common among Chinese manufacturers and can be verified during tests.

Another interesting feature, Oppo wants to personalize listening via Golden Sound technology. The latter is capable of “create a model of the user’s ear canal in 5 minutes” and promises “an audio effect worthy of a recording studio”. It can be coupled with custom noise reduction technology while a transparency mode is available.

The Enco X2s add a multipoint Bluetooth 5.2 connection; it will be possible to connect the headphones to 2 devices simultaneously, with automatic switch. A HeyMelody application (Android/iOS) accompanies the headphones, as well as a charging box.

Oppo announces an autonomy of 5 hours (LHDC) to 5:30 (AAC) with maximum noise reduction. It reaches 20 to 22 hours with the case and can climb up to 40 hours with the “standard” noise reduction. A USB-C port is integrated while a fast charge offers 2 hours of listening after 5 minutes of charging. The case is also compatible with Qi wireless charging.

Price and availability

Oppo announces that the Enco X2 will be available in white or black. They will be marketed at the end of April, at a price of 199.99 euros.
