Orange charges €100 to keep its Livebox when changing plans, subscribers are enraged

It is a very unpleasant surprise that the user Paingout discovered, which he hastened to share on Twitter. By wishing to modify his Internet package at Orange, he found that he would have to pay an additional €100… simply to be able to keep his current box. Worse, the incumbent provides no viable explanation for these charges.

We are no longer one bad surprise from the operators, but this one is particularly cynical. While many Internet and mobile subscriptions will soon be subject to a price increase, many users are now looking to switch to a less expensive plan to, if not save money, avoid receiving a higher bill in the coming months.

This is how Painout, a Twitter member, went to the Orange site, where he discovered that he could benefit from a mobile and fiber plan similar to the one he already enjoys, but for 5 € less per month. So everything seemed to be going well, until he came to the next page. Above, Orange informs him that he will have to pay 100 € of “conservation costs” of his Livebox 6.

Orange charges a lot of money for plan changes

Worse still, Orange does not deign to give more explanations on its site. Painout reports indeed having clicked on a link supposed to give more context around these expenses, then to be greeted by an enigmatic phrase : “By changing now for a cheaper offer, fees apply. » Further, the user explains that he tried to switch to a non-binding offer, for an even more mixed result.

Indeed, the change of offer is this time invoiced 150 €, to which are added 100 € of activation for its Livebox 6, i.e. a total of 250 € for a Livebox already well and truly functional. In comments, Orange indicated that the Livebox 6 is offered free of charge only with the contract from which Painout benefits. For their part, Internet users have not missed the opportunity to highlight the irony of the situation. “Thank you, I hesitated and you have just convinced me to go to Bouygues”, says one of them.
