Oscar Awards 2022: all the nominees and winners

As we anticipated, this morning there has been the 94th edition of the Oscars, with a ceremony quite different from last year, showing us in these Oscars 2022 that COVID-19 is getting closer to becoming a past memory. A unique gala that, in its more than three hours of celebration, left us with great milestones and historical moments that, for better and for worse, will undoubtedly go down in memory.

And it is that the awards have not been the only highlight of this ceremony, with Will Smith’s unplanned intervention during comedian Chris Rock’s speech, to give him a hard slap followed by some unfriendly yelling. The unfortunate event began after Chris Rock made a joke about the shaved head of Smith’s wife, who suffers from alopecia. Something that could have hurt the couple’s feelings and led to this inappropriate reaction from the actor, who ended up going back to his seat to yell “leave my fucking wife’s name out of your speech.”

Although the controversy did not end here, since Will Smith returned to the stage just a few minutes later to collect his Oscar for best actor for his role in The Williams Method, adding in his speech an apology to the rest of the nominees and attendees and the Academy , expressly omitting mention of Rock himself.

So, giving importance to what is really due, the big winner of these 2022 Oscar Awards was undoubtedly CODA, the first film from a streaming platform to win the grand prizeracking up three statuettes for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur.

A milestone that, although it seemed practically in the hands of Netflix, has ended up being for Apple TV +, showing us the enormous strength and relevance that these platforms are gaining, going from a role exclusively focused on the reproduction of content, to an increasingly greater commitment for creating original content.

In fact, Netflix’s The Power of the Dog also won a statuette, in this case for Jane Campion for Best Direction. Another of the historical milestones of the nightbeing the first director to achieve two nominations in the category (The Piano, in 1994), and the third woman to win this award, behind Kathryn Bigelow (In Hostile Land) and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland).

One of the big winners of the night was dunes, that continuing after its great success at the box office, managed to win up to six Oscars for Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Photography, Best Visual Effects and Best Soundtrack for the work by Hans Zimmer, who was unable to attend the ceremony.

Last but not least, although neither Penélope Cruz, nor Javier Bardem, nor Alberto Iglesias managed to return with a statuette, we have continued to count on Spanish representation in these 2022 Oscar Awards thanks to the triumph of Alberto Mielgowinner of the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Windshield Wiper.
