other characters were to make their comeback

In addition to the iconic villains of the various spider films, No Way Home had to bring back characters that were just as iconic according to the writers.

*** Warning Spoilers on Spider-Man: No Way Home ***

Spider-Man: No Way Home is a historic rendezvous for Spider-Man fans. The third installment of the adventures of Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, has fulfilled the promise to bring together all the actors who have camped on the superhero, and much more. In addition to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, as well as a good chunk of the villains they’ve faced, Jon Watts’ film also introduced Matt Murdock to the MCU. However, according to the writers, the film could have gone even further by inviting many more actors to find the characters they have camped in the two sagas.

Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who created the screenplay, explained to Variety to have started their writing sessions without really worrying too much about the logistics. So they admit that they included a lot more characters in their first draft.

“Let’s write the script and we’ll act like we’re going to get whatever we want. And like Peter’s wish, it turned into a nightmare. It took very talented people to help us not die at the end of the process ”.

He adds that he was forced to make several choices to keep a certain consistency in the story and not lose the main objective of the film: to grow Peter Parker to prepare him for the rest of his adventures. “The most important thing was that it wasn’t going to be just fan service. We had to find a way for this movie to tell the story of this Peter Parker right now, organically coming out of where we left off in the last movie. This has always been our course of action. Yep, that’s a great fun idea. Let’s not forget Peter. You can’t get lost in the mix. It must be his emotional journey. ”

Kirsten Dunst dismissed at the last moment?

Very early in the development process, Kirsten Dunst’s name was associated with Spider-Man: No Way Home, even before he gets himself an official title. Rumors were rife, many imagined the actress taking over the role of Mary Jane alongside Tobey Maguire. However, if you have seen the film, you will undoubtedly have noticed that it is simply mentioned and that at no time does it appear on the screen.

So we can easily imagine that she is one of those characters who ultimately could not be included. However, in the midst of a promotional campaign for The Power of The Dog by Jane Campion, the actress did not rule out the idea of returning to play her on the screen. She tells Entertainment Weekly: “I would like him to give me the opportunity to do another one. Like an old Mary Jane. Why not ?” However, we will have to wait to find out if this dream will ever come true. Sony has not yet announced any return of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.

For Emma Stone, it’s another matter since her character died at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. With mourning for Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker being such a big part of the plot, it was pretty obvious she wouldn’t be solicited. Remember, however, that all the villains of the film were also dead, this will not have been impossible in theory.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in the works?

Whereas Spider-Man: No Way Home weaves its web at the cinema, The Amazing Spider-Man made talk about him again. After Andrew Garfield returns in the costume, many fans are asking for a continuation of the character’s adventures. However, according to recent statements from his stuntman, it is not really on the agenda. “No, I don’t know anything about it.”

We will therefore have to wait for Sony to announce its future projects in connection with the friendly neighborhood spider to be clear, but it seems unlikely that the studios will decide to resuscitate the license, which we recall had not been a great success when it was released. No Way Home nevertheless allowed Andrew Garfield to say goodbye to the character, and come to terms with the costume.
