Our readers speak: What do you think of the AMD Ryzen 7000?

The Ryzen 7000 debuted a month ago. AMD made an early filing and left a considerable margin until the embargo was lifted that allowed us to publish our review of the Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 5 7600X just a few days ago. The wait was long, but In the end I think it was worth it.

With the Ryzen 7000 in AMD they have shown, for the third time, that his bet on an MCM design was not a mistakeand they have done it through four great keys:

  • A notable increase in single-wire performance, driven both by the rise in IPC and by a large increase in working frequencies.
  • It has broken the 5 GHz barrier, something that seemed impossible for an MCM design.
  • It has also managed to implement two of the most advanced nodes that exist, the 5nm at the CPU level and the 6nm at the GPU-I/O level.
  • It has shaped a next-generation platform with support for DDR5 and PCIe Gen5.

It is true that the Ryzen 7000 they are not perfect. Compared to the Ryzen 5000 series they are more expensive, generate more heat and have a higher consumption, but in the end all this is compensated with a significant increase in performance, and with a state-of-the-art platform that is prepared to work with all the standards that are called to define the present and the future of the sector.

Zen 4 Ryzen 7000CCD

Special mention deserves the issue of the increase in the IPC in the Ryzen 7000, and that is AMD has not had it easy at all. With the Ryzen 5000 it has already “exhausted” the “simplest” modifications that could offer the greatest changes in terms of performance, such as breaking the division of the CCD unit into two CCX units, which allowed each block of eight cores could now access double the L3 cache (32 MB total).

Regardless, AMD has managed an increase in the CPI of 13% compared to the previous generation, and an increase in single-wire performance that can reach 29% if we take into account the increase in frequencies, that is, if we talk about raw power. Impressive for a single generational leap.

The Ryzen 7000 are another example of the potential of the MCM design and the good work of AMD in this regard. As I have already said, there are things that could be improved, but it is a generation more than worthy to succeed the excellent Ryzen 5000. Now it’s your turn, what do you think of the AMD Ryzen 7000? We read in the comments.
