Pico Pi 2, an alternative to Raspberry Pi with higher features

Pico Pi 2 is a mini single-board computer that you will be familiar with in its concept and design, very similar to that of a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B that happens to be the most advanced of the British non-profit organization that leads sales in this segment of the SBC.

The Pico Pi V2.0 has been created by Chinese manufacturer 9Tripod and is almost exactly the same size and form factor and even has a Raspberry Pi compatible 40-pin connector that will allow some Raspberry Pi HATs to be used.

The big difference lies in the SoC used, a Rockchip RK3588S that provides more features than the Broadcom of the Raspberry Pi 4 thanks to some main components among which we can mention:

  • 4 2.4GHz ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores.
  • 4 ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores at 1.8 GHz.
  • Mali-G610MC4 Graphics
  • One NPU (Neural Processing Unit for AI Acceleration) of 6 TOPS NPUs.

Another difference comes from the better connectivity of this Pico Pi 2, with a micro HDMI 2.1 port and a USB Type-C port with support for DisplayPort Alt Mode that improves on previous HDMI versions offered by the Raspberry Pi. It also has Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports for compatibility, and a microSD card reader.

The board is compatible with WiFi and Bluetooth. There is also a second USB Type-C port that is used solely for power input. The board is powered by a 5V/3A power supply). The Pico Pi V2.0 will be sold in various configurations depending on memory and storage, from 1 GB to 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and a connector for eMMC flash memory that can go from from 4 GB to 128 GBytes.

In Aliexpress you can already find some versions, such as the one that includes 8 GB of RAM and 32 GB flash from 144 euros. It is one of the best clones of the Raspberry Pi 4 with the Rockchip RK3588 SoC, widely used in single-board computers and with support for Linux and Android.
