While the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are only days away, Google has just rolled out the October update for all compatible Pixel smartphones, and this is the last one guaranteed for the Pixel 4 and 4 XL.
Like every first Monday of every month, Google has started rolling out the October 2022 security patch for Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, and all phones that span two generations prior. This therefore also includes all Pixel 5, but also all Pixel 4.
Moreover, after the end of the deployment of updates on the Pixel 3 at the beginning of the year 2022, it is now the turn of the Pixel 4 and 4 XL to be abandoned by Google. This could be the last update for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XLunless Google decides to offer a final stability update over the next few months, as they did with the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3 before them.
What does the October 2022 Update bring to Pixel smartphones?
The October patch notes are pretty light. This update brings some improvements and bug fixes, starting with audio. Google has apparently fixed hum during calls when using wired headset. The October patch also has a fix for device volume controls notification not working under certain circumstances.
It will also fix a bug preventing phones from showing available Wi-Fi connections in certain areas. Apart from that, the update is going to fix some of the issues that different users are having with Android 13 update, and especially with widgets.
The new update should be rolled out to all compatible smartphones within a few days, but if you want to download it early, the new builds are as follows, with no mention of specific builds for operator variants. Google calls this the “global” version, so it should work for everyone:
- Pixel 4 (XL): TP1A.221005.002
- Pixel 4a: TP1A.221005.002
- Pixel 4a (5G): TP1A.221005.002
- Pixel 5: TP1A.221005.002
- Pixel 5a (5G): TP1A.221005.002

- Pixel 6 Pro: TP1A.221005.002
- Pixel 6a: TP1A.221005.003
