While Google has just recently released its new high-end Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the American manufacturer may have just confirmed the arrival of a new, more affordable smartphone, the Pixel 6a.
Like the droid-life report, a coloring book was sent along with a Nest Audio smart speaker to members of Google’s Pixel Superfans group, which was launched last year to offer ” VIP experience to Pixel lovers “. In this coloring book, we find several Google products such as the Chromecast with Google TV or a Google Nest speaker, but above all a mysterious smartphone resembling a Pixel 6.
Fans were also able to discover a QR code that allows the launch of a new site “color.withgoogle.com” as well as the mention of a device that has not yet been announced. At the bottom of a page you can see different names of Google devices, among which hides the “Pixel 6a”. This is the first time Google has officially mentioned the device.
What do we know about the Pixel 6a?
The OnLeaks leaker unveiled the design of the next Pixel 6a several months ago. This one will look a lot like the classic Pixel 6, but it will use a 6.2 inch screen. Moreover, we already know that the smartphone would inherit the photo sensors of the Pixel 5, rather than the Pixel 6’s better sensors.
Additionally, the Pixel 6a would be powered by the same Tensor SoC as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which would make it one of the most powerful mid-range devices on the market. As a reminder, the SoC looks a lot like the Snapdragon 888. The chipset is equipped with two Cortex X1 at 2.8 GHZ, two Cortex A76 (less powerful than the A78) and four Cortex A55.
According to leakers Max Jambor and Jon Prosser on Twitter, Google is preparing to launch its new affordable Pixel 6a smartphone on May 26. Moreover, this would not happen alone, sincewould be accompanied by the Pixel Watch, the first connected watch from the American giant. We will surely have to wait several more weeks before having a better idea of the different products that Google will present during its conference.
