The Pixe 6 and 6 Pro are not known for the quality of their fingerprint sensor. Performance has never been there, but things will change with the Pixel 6a. And this video proves it.

As you may know, Google held its last Google I/O conference on May 11, 2022. The opportunity for the manufacturer to lift the veil on its future products, starting with the Pixel 6a, its new mid-range, without forgetting its next flagship: the Pixel 7.

Regarding the Pixel 6a, it takes up a large part of the technical sheet and the features offered by the Pixel 6, starting with the presence of the Google Tensor house chip. The Pixel 6a, on the other hand, will not inherit the finicky fingerprint sensors of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Very good news for future buyers, who will not have to deal with performance at a discount, and bugs galore.

On the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the problems had multiplied. We remember for example the bug which blocked the scanner if the battery was discharged, or even this concern which made it impossible to use the calibration tool.

A finally powerful fingerprint sensor

Shortly after the Pixel 6a was made official, Google has therefore confirmed that these worries are now history.. The manufacturer opted for a new fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6a, which it promises faster and more capable. Nevertheless, we had no choice but to take Google at its word, for lack of being able to see the sensor in action.

However, a user on Reddit posted an unboxing video of the Pixel 6a, which has since been deleted on YouTube. Always available on Reddit at this addressthis excerpt confirms that Google has kept its word. The sensor seems to react like a quarter turn, far from the sometimes aberrant delays encountered on the Pixel 6.

This should make everyday use of the Pixel 6a much more enjoyable, especially since many Android apps now support fingerprint reading as an authentication method. Note also that the sensor is placed quite high on the screenwhich makes it easier to access, even with one hand.
