Pixel 7 and 7 Pro: Google recycles the screen of Pixel 6 and 6 Pro!

Google will unveil a new generation of high-end smartphones this fall, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Before their launch, their technical sheet is becoming clearer day by day, and it is quite disappointing for the moment.

Our colleagues at 9to5Google have just revealed that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro should ultimately share many similarities with the previous models, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Indeed, while we already knew that the new models will recycle current generation photo sensors, it is now clear that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will also use the same screens as their larger siblings.

Indeed, 9to5Google found two new display drivers in the Android Open Source Program, one named “C10” and the other “P10”. These would directly refer to the codenames “Cheetah” and “Panther”, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. These files reveal that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will use the exact same Samsung S6E3FC3 and S6E3HC3 panels found on the previous generation.

We know everything about the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro screens before their launch

Thanks to the information brought to light by 9to5Google, we now know that the Pixel 7 will use an FHD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. In this price segment, we could have hoped for a panel with a frequency of 120 Hz, but this is ultimately not the case. As revealed by renders shared by OnLeaks, the screen will still be curved, unlike cheaper models such as the upcoming Pixel 6a.

On his side, the Pixel 7 Pro will use a QHD+ (1440 x 3120 pixels) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Although no change is immediately visible, it could well be that the new smartphones offer a screen that is a little more edge to edge. Indeed, the Pixel 7 is going to be slightly smaller than the Pixel 6. It would be 1mm narrower and 2mm shorter. In contrast, the Pixel 7 Pro measures the same size as its predecessor.

Google announced at Google I/O that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro would arrive this fall, probably around October. We know that smartphones would not arrive alone, since they will be accompanied by the first connected watch from the manufacturer: the Pixel Watch. Moreover, it will also use old components, since we will find the same processor that was used in the Galaxy Watch of 2018.
