As you may know, the New Playstation Plus is due to come into effect on June 22, 2022 in France. This new entity, resulting from the merger between the current Playstation Plus and Playstation Now, will offer three formulas. The most expensive of them, the Playstation Plus Premium (€16.99 per month), will allow you to enjoy many advantages such as access to 400 PS4 and PS5 games for local download, not to mention backward compatibility with no less than 340 games from the Playstation, PS2 and PS3 catalogs.

We already know that some titles from the Siphon Filter saga will be part of the titles offered with the Playstation Plus Premium. In addition, subscribers will also be able preview future PS5 games. And precisely, Sony has just provided more details on the subject. As revealed by our colleagues from the specialized site GameDeveloper, the manufacturer has just sent a press release to all the development studios that work with it.

Sony requires developers to offer playable demos

The Japanese firm explains that it has changed its policy on the occasion of the arrival of the new Playstation Plus. Thus, studios working on games that will be sold for more than €35 will have to must offer a playable demo of at least 2 hours subscribers to the Playstation Plus Premium plan.

Games sold at a lower amount will not be affected by this measure, and it should be noted that the latter is not retroactive. In other words, thThey do not apply to games already released or which will be released before the launch of the new Playstation Plus. In addition, the next Playstation VR2 titles are also not affected.

If this policy is undoubtedly good news for subscribers, it is less the case for the studios which will have to provide the necessary resources and the time to offer these trial versions. A trifle for large teams, but a significant workload for the self-employed with reduced staff.

Despite everything, Sony makes sure to offer some flexibility. Developers will have a period of three months after the release of their game to offer a playable demo. In return, they must be available for at least one year. Developers will still be free to release free weekends, trials, or custom demos for all Playstation players (not just PS Plus Premium subscribers).
