As the saying goes, better late than never. While Xbox gamers can take advantage of Discord chat on their console to chat with their friends (whether they’re on PC or Xbox), that’s still not the case for Playstation gamers.

And yet, Sony and Discord announced an important partnership in May 2021! At the time, Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord to your social and gaming experience on Playstation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and Playstation experiences closer together on console and mobile early next year, making it easier for friends, groups and communities to find each other, have fun and connect while playing together.”

Only and despite all this enthusiasm, Playstation players still can’t enjoy the full Discord experience. For now, it is only possible to link your Playstation and Discord accounts, in order to display your activities and the games you are currently playing… And that’s it.

The full Discord experience is coming to PS5 in March 2023

In October 2022, screenshots of the latest beta of the Discord application, however, gave hope, since we could see the presence of a new button “Join Voice on Playstation” or “Join the vocal on Playstation” in the language of Molière.

However, and according to information from renowned insider Tom Henderson published on Insider Gaming, full Discord integration coming with upcoming PS5 firmware update. Version 7.00 of the console software is expected for March 8, 2023 according to him.

In addition, Tom Henderson announces that this update will also offer a new feature allowing you to will play PS5 games from the cloud (like what PS Now offered). According to its sources, this service will be included in the Premium level of Playstation Plus. Note that we’ve heard of this feature previously under the codename “Cronus”.
