PS5: you can install DualSense controller updates via your PC

Good news, PC players will no longer necessarily have to be in possession of a PS5 to update their DualSense controller. Sony has just deployed the DualSense update software on PC. However, you will have to tick a few boxes to take advantage of it.

We mentioned it in our columns last week. Members of the ResetEra forum had discovered the existence of a user license agreement for update software for the DualSense. The document notably contained several mentions of a dedicated application for Windows PC and Mac. Good news for players on these two media, who until then had no other choice to update their DualSense than to have a PS5.

However, ResetEra users were right. Indeed, Sony has just announced the availability of the “DualSense Wireless Controller Software Update Program” on his official blog. As you will have understood, thanks to this software, PC players (and not Mac unfortunately) will be able to keep their PS5 controller up to date and above all benefit from its exclusive features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the rare compatible titles.

As Sony specifies, it will however be necessary to have a Windows PC with system requirements. There she is :

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64 bit) or Windows 11
  • Storage space: 10 MB or more
  • Display resolution: 1024 x 768 or higher
  • USB port required

In addition, it will be necessary to install the “DualSense Wireless Controller Software Updater” application, downloadable from this address. Once the program is installed on your machine, all you have to do is connect your controller to your Windows PC via a USB cable and follow the on-screen instructions to update. A message will be displayed when the process is complete.

Finally, note that it will be necessary to proceed to this operation for each of your DualSense controllers. When a firmware update is available, the application will notify you by sending you a notification. Typically, these updates are rolled out alongside PS5 system updates.
