PSG officially joins the metaverse, many NFTs are to be expected

On March 16, 2022, PSG officially registered its brand in the metaverse. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to protect against counterfeiting in the form of NFT, on the other hand to offer its own collection of audio, video, clothing content, etc. It is the first football club to enter the virtual universe.

McDonald’s, Carrefour, Playboy… we have lost count of the number of brands investing in the metaverse. Many see it theree next digital El Dorado, convinced that NFTs will be a new source of income. It is now the turn of PSG to join the merry band. On March 16, the club filed a case to protect the brand in virtual universes. In other words, all NFTs, tokens and other transactions related to PSG will belong to the latter.

“This filing represents the next logical step to protect the brand as it moves through the Metaverse. It is clear that PSG sees the potential of the Metaverse and prepares its brand for the virtual economy that will dominate it”, can we read in the press release. After announcing to pay part of Lionel Messi’s salary with his own cryptocurrency, the football club therefore moves on to the next stage.

As a result, PSG intends to provide its fans with services and derivative products via NFTs. The club thus plans to put on sale the audio and video recordings of memorable matches, as well as fashion clothes and accessories to dress up fan avatars. He also mentions software to manage transactions on the metaverse, protected of course by the blockchain. As a priority, the PSG especially wishes to avoid that its goods are the subject of counterfeits.

According to Mike Kondoudis, the lawyer who filed the casemany other clubs should soon follow in PSG’s footsteps by selling their derivative products in the metaverse. A few months ago, Manchester City notably began the construction of its own stadium on a plot of the virtual universe, which will allow its supporters to watch club matches in VR.
