Qualcomm and HPE partner to bring distributed 5G solutions to businesses

Qualcomm has created an alliance with HPE which has the purpose Bringing the Next Generation of 5G Distributed Units to Enterprises, given that they have more and more needs related to the deployment of 5G technology and connectivity. These drives run through Qualcomm’s new online integration accelerator card, the X100 5G RAM.

The result of this collaboration is the first fully optimized virtualized distributed unit (vDU) in the industry. It is a solution that costs up to 60% less than the total cost of ownership for operators. Qualcomm and HPE therefore aim to improve user experiences by helping virtualized and open RAN platforms already ready to support high-capacity, low-latency workloads in future networks.

5G RAN vDU units, combine accelerator card that mounts online Qualcomm X100 5G RAN, created for this collaboration. with the server HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen10 Plus Telco. The system is designed to support up to four high-performance, power-efficient accelerator cards in a 1U service, further reducing power consumption. According to a study by Qualcomm and HPE, operators will achieve up to 60% lower cost of ownership in 5G deployments.

With this solution, both companies hope to bring cloud-native and virtualized 5G network deployments by offloading server CPUs from the compute-intensive 5G baseband process at a time when network operators are face increasing difficulties in deploying cost-efficient 5G network infrastructures, in addition to the complexities of 5G networks. HPE and Qualcomm are looking to change the way networks are designed and deployed as they move into the next phase of service offerings.

Due to the growing demand for enterprise networks, which is increasing as employees are returning to work in the office while others remain remote, the collaboration between Qualcomm and HPE will address the needs of companies regarding the use of the 5G to get the most out of it. In addition, with their collaboration, both hope to be able to simplify deployments, as well as reduce the total cost of ownership of the systems, offering a highly functional open radio network access (O-RAN), with cloud-native, virtualized and efficient 5G solutions. in terms of energy.

Tom Craig, Head of HPE and Vice President of its Communications Technology Grouphas stated that «HPE is looking forward to collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies to help address the rigorous and changing demands of 5G. Our industry-leading, carrier-grade HPE infrastructure, integrated with innovative technology from Qualcomm Technologies, will further benefit our customers as they expand the deployment of their 5G networks.«.

For its part, Durga Malladi, Vice President and General Manager of 5G, Infrastructure and Mobile Broadband at Qualcommhas highlighted that through its collaboration with HPE they are «capable of delivering powerful and reliable 5G experiences to consumers«.
