Qualcomm enters the world of notebooks with the Snapdragon 8cx and Snapdragon 7c +

Although during the last years we have already seen the first steps of Qualcomm in the manufacture of chipsets for Windows computersUntil now we had seen relatively uncompetitive processors with respect to Intel and AMD. Something that seems to change with the new Snapdragon 8cx and Snapdragon 7c +, which aim to compete in both terms of price and performance.

Already dated for your arrival in the next year, The next Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 will offer up to 85% more performance than the current generation, while the Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 will offer similar improvements over last year’s entry-level chip while keeping this price down.

Delving a little deeper into the first, according to Qualcomm itself, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 also offers a 60% increase in graphics performance and a Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor with support for a 4K HDR camera, up to 4 cameras, and 15% faster camera launch for Zoom or other video conferencing tasks.

Improvements that, beyond being enormous with respect to its previous updates, undoubtedly appear as a more realistic and competitive alternative with Intel and AMD. And it is that Apple has already shown that it is possible to manufacture ARM-based chips that are not only competitive, but can outperform other high-end chips in terms of performance per watt.

The new chip features Kryo 695 CPU cores, which are based on four ARM Cortex-X1 and four Cortex-A78 cores, and some Adreno 69x series graphics. Additionally, we can also find an Adreno 665 video processing unit and an Adreno 1199 display processing unit.

Also has a revamped artificial intelligence engine which, according to the company, provides more than 29 TOPS of performance, Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6900 wireless system with support for WiFi 6E, and up to a Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G modem with support for speeds of mobile data download up to 10 Gbps.

On the other hand, we don’t forget the Snapdragon 7c + either. And is that while the Snapdragon 8cx is designed for higher performance Windows systems, this series is designed for entry-level Windows PCs and Chromebooks.

Thus, this new generation will repeat with a manufacturing process in 6 nanometers, offering performance improvements of 60% for CPU speed, 70% for GPU, and a 6.5 improvement in TOPS AI performance. In addition, this chip will feature a FastConnect 6700 wireless system with support for WiFi 6E speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps and an integrated Snpadragon X53 5G modem with support for mmWave and sub-6 GHz networks.

Without a specific date, the first devices equipped with both Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c + processors are expected to be available on the market. during the first half of 2022.
