Qualcomm’s revenue rises 41% from the sale of smartphone chips

Qualcomm has announced the results for the second quarter of its fiscal year 2022characterized by a year-on-year rise in revenue of 41%, something that the company attributes above all to the improvement in the sale of its chips for smartphones and other mobile devices. The company has entered in total 11.16 billion dollars in the quarter, and has registered earnings per share during the period of 3.21 dollars, achieving a year-on-year increase in this aspect of 69%.

The income that Qualcomm has achieved between January and March from chip sales has reported to the company 9,550 million dollars, 521% more than during the same period of 2021. As for the income from technology licenses during the quarter, Qualcomm It has obtained 1,580 million dollars.

Most of Qualcomm’s income comes from the sale of processors and modems for smartphones and through technology licenses for connection to mobile networks, as can be seen from the results. In this reported quarter, revenues from the sale of the company’s four chip areas have improved. The main one is dedicated to handheld devices, which has improved in revenue by 56% to 6,330 million dollars. Front-end RF sales, an area that focuses on selling a component that enables 5G connections, have improved 28% to $1.16 billion.

The division of the company dedicated to the automotive industry is still small in terms of sales, since it has entered 339 million dollars, an amount higher by 41% than that achieved in the same period last year. In view of its growth, the company is optimistic about its future, and continues to advance agreements with suppliers and manufacturers to cement its expansion in the coming years.

On the other hand, the Qualcomm division dedicated to the Internet of Things, in charge of the design and development of low-cost and low-consumption chips, has seen its income grow by 61% between January and March of this year, when it has achieved 1,720 million of dollars in sales. The company has also announced that it has paid out $764 million in cash in dividends this quarter and has repurchased $951 million worth of shares.
