Razer Introduces “The World’s First Desktop Gaming Concept”

Razer’s Project Sophia desk and Enki Pro chair could become a benchmark in the field of gaming furniture.

This January 6, CES 2022 continues to impress us with announcements as promising as they are unexpected. The lifestyle brand for gamers, Razer, has already presented us with the renewal of its range of gaming laptops, the Razer Blades, and returns today with a new presentation in the field of furniture and accessories. The company is indeed introducing a whole new concept of gaming desk, and a new armchair.

The first is named Project Sophia, and Razer prides itself on presenting what is supposed to be “the world’s first true desktop gaming concept.” This has the particularity of wanting to adapt to the different uses that we could make of it, at a time when teleworking has become a new standard across the world.

The company has thought of everything, and tends to target all types of consumers: gamers, streamers, professionals, and particularly those who juggle several of these caps. For this, Project Sophia is fully modular, and can even support up to 13 different modules. The mark specifies that each section can be configured with ” secondary displays, system monitoring tools, hotkey touch panels, pen tablets and audio mixing units, or even external capture cards “.

Inside, the office is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic components, including an Intel chip and a latest-generation Nvidia GPU. This allows users to get the most out of their installation while switching configurations at lightning speed. Of course, Razer is also boosting its machine with a healthy dose of RGB lighting because… why not? It also has an OLED screen, available in 65 or 77 inches.

A 4D gaming chair?

The brand couples the announcement of this innovative desk with a familiar looking gaming chair. Indeed, it is an improved version of the Enki Pro chair, Razer’s flagship product. The big plus of the Enki Pro HyperSense model is the addition of haptic feedback. If this seems surprising, we can legitimately wonder what haptic feedback can bring to a gaming armchair, when we are more used to seeing this technology in the controllers (for the moment).

Sébastien Mailhot, president of the company that integrates this technology, declares: “ our combined efforts have resulted in a product that physically transforms the experience of games, movies and music through the use of cutting-edge high-fidelity haptic feedback.

Concretely, the chair supports more than 2000 works (music, films, games, etc.) and therefore adapts to the feedback for each of them natively, as Sony already does with its PS5 and its DualSense. However, the brand promises a clear technological advance with no less than 65,000 haptic variations, a tactile feedback of +/- 1 force G and a vertical and rear tilt of 1.5 inches of the seat.

Neither of the two products presented was entitled to a release date or even an official price. For the first, it is even only a concept, so it is possible that the project will not come true in the end. Razer will revisit these announcements later this year.
