Razer X Fossil Gen 6: a very gamer smartwatch

A very striking and interesting announcement of this CES 2022 is the Razer x Fossil Gen 6, and it is a paradigmatic sample that how gaming has transcended from being a simple leisure activity, to become an identity element, in which the aesthetic plane plays a very significant asset. Being a gamer is no longer just about playing games, and brands like Razer are well aware of this, and have been transferring this aesthetic to other aspects of daily life for some time.

A very clear example of this can be found in the Razer Zephyr, a mask with a spectacular aesthetic, and that not in vain it has exhausted stocks and now shows, on its page, a section in which to register to receive notifications about it. And another, even more universal way of wearing gaming is, without a doubt, the Razer X Fossil Gen 6, a smartwatch with everything we can expect from a device of this type, and with a design that will not go unnoticed by those who like it. of said aesthetics (among whom I admit that I include myself).

It is important, of course, to clarify that we are not talking about a watch to play, but about a smartwatch with all the laws. To this end, the Razer X Fossil Gen 6, which as its name suggests was born from the collaboration between Razer and Fossil, which brings its vast experience in the field of watches, is built around a SoC Snapdragon Wear 4100+, an integrated one that we already talked about here, and that guarantees a performance more than adequate for all the uses that you can give to a smart watch. The SoC is supported by 8 gigabytes of storage and 1 gigabyte of RAM.

The Razer X Fossil Gen 6 features a 1.28-inch round screen with a definition of 326 dots per inch that you can configure with the three exclusive spheres and the custom Razer user interface elements, all of them with an undoubtedly gamer aesthetic, which you will also quickly recognize if you are already a user of other products of the brand. Regarding its connectivity, it is undoubtedly quite wide, since the watch has Bluetooth 5.0 LE, W-Fi, GPS and NFC SE.

Regarding its functions, in the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 we find accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, altimeter, PPG heart rate sensor, blood oxygen level (SpO2) sensor, out-of-body IR and ambient light. With these sensors, the smartwatch will be a good health monitor, both for the practice of sports activities, thanks to functions such as the VO2 estimation, and for day-to-day life, with functions that range from active monitoring of vital signs. to, for example, reminders to go for a walk or to do a breathing session to check your heart rate.

One aspect that Razer and Fossil have focused on is the autonomy of the watch. Thus, as a result of this work, the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 reaches 80% battery in just over 30 minutes of charging, a charge that will also last for a long time thanks to the efficiency functions provided by both the Snapdragon SoC and the development of the watch itself. To ensure compatibility with a large catalog of apps, the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 is fully compatible with Wear OS 3, Google’s operating system for wearables, and therefore you will have access to all Google Play apps for wearables.
