Red Hat Summit Connect 2022: From Hybrid Cloud to Edge

After two years of “virtuality” due to the pandemic, Red Hat has once again celebrated its annual event for everything big: Summit Connect 2022. In a space as emblematic as the Círculo de Bellas in Madrid, the company has met again in person with customers, partners and IT professionals in a day that has left some interesting headlines.

The main one, that the edge computing it has become the next great battlefield in which the open source company wants to triumph. Both in the plenary session and in his subsequent meeting with the media, Julia Bernal, Country Manager for Spain and Portugal, stated that after conquering the hybrid cloud, the time has come to “extend Red Hat’s capabilities to the edge of the network, so that we can run Linux on any device, work with containers and access technologies that allow companies to make decisions in real time. Unlike other competitors in this field, Red Hat “starts with the advantage” – says Bernal – “in that it is capable of offering a consistent experience, from the data center to the edgeusing the same tools.

The other big issue that has been planned throughout the day, has been the importance that security has also acquired in Open Source scenarios, which are increasingly attacked by cybercriminals. In this sense, the person in charge of the company has highlighted the effort that Red Hat has made in the last year to “reinforce the security of the code and applications at the container level” citing as an example new tools that allow validating the security of a development from its early stages to its start-up.

At a business level, the event has served to highlight the interesting state of form that open source software is experiencing in Public Administrations and that, to a large extent, has been driven by the numerous digitization projects that have arisen from the approval of the Next Generation Funds. In this sense, initiatives have been highlighted such as that of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, which has launched a new citizen portal based on Red Hat infrastructure and container technology.

Also, and no less important, the recent agreement that the multinational has reached with Minisait (Indra) and Intel to introduce an open, scalable solution on the market with advanced security capabilities aimed at electrical substation virtualizationwhich can be used both in the segment of primary installations and in secondary substations (or transformation centers).

The main objective of this collaboration has been to create a comprehensive Edge Computing architecture that encompasses all the operation processes that are necessary after the digitalization of these assets and that is compatible with the high real-time and security requirements necessary in these operating environments. .

After the plenary session, those attending the Summit Connect 2022 have been able to participate in the different parallel activities that have been launched, as well as discover the success stories of companies such as Seat, HPE, ING or NTT DATA, or attend the demos and practical workshops on the company’s latest products and technological solutions.
