Reddit got a new news feed

The application of the major social platform Reddit now has another feed for infinite scrolling. Going into more detail, the company has finally unveiled a new section called Discover, which will display a personalized stream of photos, GIFs, and videos. And according to Jason Kost, director of product for content and communities at Reddit, the new feed, added to the Reddit app for the first time in over two years, is a section designed to help platform users get to corners of the site they might not find. on the first page or in r/popular.

“This innovation is more about solving the breadth of content visibility problem and really helps people navigate the wide space of Reddit,” Jason Costa told the authoritative publication Engadget. He also notes that early testing of the feature shows that one in five users have joined “at least one subreddit through Discover.” The new section also gives Reddit the opportunity to showcase the vast catalog of memes, GIFs and videos that users share every day but aren’t always at the center of the app.

While much of Reddit remains a “text experience,” the new “Discover” feed could help boost Reddit posts and attract people who are more likely to scroll aimlessly than read anything in it. The channel itself is meant to be personalized for each user, just like the corresponding section on Instagram would be. New users or people who aren’t logged in will see trending content that might be trending on Reddit or just “get a lot of attention”. And yes, existing users will see recommendations based on the subreddits they follow and the types of content they spend the most time viewing.

One way or another, for now, the innovation is limited to Reddit mobile applications, but Jason Costa argues that if Reddit users like this feature, it may affect other aspects of the service. “I can absolutely see how this will affect other areas of the platform and possibly even affect the design language of Reddit,” he said. So if before that you didn’t like that you were missing out on some content on the platform, then from now on this problem, at least in part, is solved.
