Renault launches the Mobilize Duo, the anti Citroën Ami with 140 km of autonomy

Renault presents this Monday, October 10, 2022 the Mobilize Duo, a new electric quadricycle designed to succeed the Twizy. Available in several versions and with a range of 140 km, this vehicle is set to compete with the Citroën Ami in the field of cars without a licence.

With the Citroën Ami, the chevron brand has hit hard on the market for cars without a licence. Despite limited performance with a maximum speed of 45 km / h and 70 km of autonomy, the small electric city car quickly found a buyer, as evidenced by the 20,000 sales exceeded in April 2022.

Nevertheless, the domination of the Ami on this particular sector could well be undermined by a new competitor: the Renault Mobilize Duo. This Monday, October 10, 2022, in addition to the presentation of its own network of charging stations, the diamond brand has lifted the veil on the one that must replace the Twizy.

Renault presents the Mobilize Duo, the anti Citroën Ami

The Mobilize Duo, designed by Renault’s eponymous subsidiary dedicated to urban mobility, displays ultra-compact dimensions with 2.43 meters long and 1.30 meters wide. Unsurprisingly, we find the characteristic style of the Twizy, with its two seats in tandem and this egg shape on wheels.

However, the design is more functional than in the past, with itsprominent shields to protect against front impacts. The body panels are unpainted plastic, and it is possible to personalize the Mobilize Duo with decals. Renault also specifies that the Mobilize Duo consists of 50% recycled materials.

Inside, comfort is less spartan than in the Twizy. First and this is a big change, the cockpit is completely closed and waterproof! Then there are padded seats (at a minimum), an airbag for the driver, and locations for cabin suitcases on each side of the driver’s seat (note that there is no trunk). In back, there is enough space for a passenger of 1.80 m maximum. On the dashboard, Mobilize has integrated a digital handset, a USB Type-C port and a smartphone holder.

A beautiful autonomy of 140 km promised by Renault

And under the hood? For the moment, the manufacturer has given neither power nor torque. Nevertheless, we know that the Mobilize Duo will be launched in two versions:

  • a model displaying a max. 45 km/h accessible without a license (from 14 years old)
  • a model displaying a max. of 80 km/h requiring the possession of the license B

According to Renault, both versions have a good range of 140 km, which is much higher than what the Twizy (120 km) and the Citroën Ami of course and its 70 km offer. Be careful however, we do not yet know the battery capacity or the precise recharge time.

On this point, however, we know that the Mobilize Duo will offer domestic charging and via a Type 2 cable suitable for public terminals. We suspect that Renault will reveal this missing information later, the Mobilize Duo not being expected before the end of 2023. Regarding the finance part, the vehicle will only be available as a flexible subscription, from 3 months for individuals. The operation will be done in a few clicks according to the manufacturer.

Let’s conclude this presentation by discussing the Bento, a version of the Mobilize Duo dedicated to professionals. Here, the place at the back is removed in favor of a trunk of 700 liters. The Mobilize Bento will debut in 2024.
