Resident Evil: an update makes the games unplayable on PC, Capcom backtracks

Incidentally, Capcom took the opportunity to announce the immediate availability of a next-gen patch on PS5 and Xbox Series X for Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. On the program, better graphics performance, an improved framerate, support for Ray-Tracing and 3D audio not to mention faster loading times.

Of course, PC gamers were not forgotten in the process and could also enjoy these additions. Only it turns out that this update changed the minimum requirements to launch these games on PC. In fact, many players with the minimum configuration were no longer able to enjoy these three titles.

Problem, it was impossible to go back to previous versions of the games… And therefore to be able to launch them again. Of course, many players have raised the problem on social networks and on the official forums of Capcom and Resident Evil.

Capcom reactivates previous versions on PC

However, Capcom has taken note of these concerns and has decided to reactivate older PC versions of all three games.Due to massive community response, we have re-enabled previous versions that do not include Ray-Tracing and enhanced 3D audio. Improved and previous versions will be available in the future”, the studio said.

If you are in this situation, here is the procedure to follow to return to the previous version of RE 7, RE 2 and RE 3:

  • Launch Steam and navigate to your game library
  • Right click on the game and select Properties
  • From the menu that appears, select Beta
  • Here choose “dx11_non-rt”
  • Close the context menu and let the Steam client proceed with the update

So, you should be able to restart the game in its previous versionbefore the rollout of the next-gen update.
