[REVIEW] Silt is a unique and somewhat disturbing adventure.

“Silt” is an independent game created by Spiral Circus and released by Fireshine Games that puts the player to solve puzzles at the bottom of an ocean abyss. With elements of adventure, this Limbolike – does that term exist? – offers exploration and, if you have thalassophobia, a certain discomfort.

Anyway, it’s a game that deserves to be highlighted precisely for its mechanics. Want to know what we think? Check out our full review.

History

“Silt” puts players in the shoes of a scuba diver who finds himself trapped by a current at the bottom of the sea. At one point – and using some of the coolest mechanics in the adventure – he lets go and has to unravel long-forgotten mysteries.

For this, the player must explore the scenarios amidst dangerous creatures and many puzzles to be solved.

The proposal is simple – and this is not where the game stands out – although the game presents many questions that make the player curious to reach the end and understand everything that happened.

However, even with the end of the credits, some questions remain unresolved – such as how the diver ended up in the situation described at the beginning. Anyway, the idea is to contemplate the game at the same time that puzzles are solved to proceed.

It is in the mechanics that “Silt” excels. Although the diver doesn’t have many skills – just swim faster by pressing an action button – there is a second tool that drives the whole game: the “possession”.

Yes, that’s what you read. The player can have the most diverse sea creatures to help solve the puzzles. They are fish, sharks, rays and crustaceans that, using their characteristics, can cut ropes, open passages and break machines.

This diversifies the gameplay and brings a sense of challenge, since, in addition to exploring the scenario to find the best way to proceed, the player has to know how to use these characters when possessed.

However, as not everything is perfect, the game comes up against inaccurate controls at times – this, of course, considering that the character is submerged all the time.

Scenarios

The scenarios are breathtaking. Remember thalassophobia? It can be present at different times, as it is common to find yourself in an immensity with nothing – at least until the challenges of that place appear.

Anyway, it is interesting to wander through the landscapes in search of which way to go or which animals to have to overcome difficulties.

Bosses are basically giant creatures that most of the time take up the entire screen and require some quick thinking from players to beat them.

When passing through some places, there are curious structures and some even quite interesting. So get ready to take lots of screenshots of moments that catch your eye.

Conclusion

“Silt” isn’t a long game, so there’s not much to debate about it. Anyway, with its focus on puzzles, the four acts of the story are quite interesting and the bosses quite intimidating – but not too difficult.

The game is a great hobby and a good choice for those looking for a different title with its own identity.

“Silt” is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.

The game was analyzed from a key sent by Fireshine Games for PlayStation 5.
