Rockstar confirms GTA VI, and ensures that GTA V and GTA Online will receive ray tracing

We had been seeing rumors about GTA VI for a long time, the long-awaited new installment of the well-known Rockstar franchise and today, finally, the well-known New York studio has confirmed that said title is in development, and that they hope to be able to share more details as soon as possible. be prepared for it. This can mean many things, but in any case the important thing is that this project is underway, and that its launch could be closer than some sources pointed out.

All in all, I want to leave a warning so that we are not too optimistic. The fact that Rockstar has shared nothing more than a mere confirmation of GTA VI, and a “we’ll show something when we’re ready”, suggests that this title is not yet mature enough to be seen.

On the other hand, Rockstar has also confirmed that GTA V and GTA Online have a lot of life ahead of them, so there’s no doubt that the release of GTA VI is still “a few years away”. And speaking of GTA V and GTA online, Rockstar has said that the adaptations for the new generation of consoles will bring important improvements at the technical level, and among them have stood out:

  • Resolution up to 4K (depending on the power of each platform).
  • Greater drawing distance.
  • Higher quality textures.
  • Up to 60FPS.
  • HDR and ray tracing (probably in a specific mode that will reduce resolution and/or FPS rate).
  • Lower loading times.
  • Immersive 3D sound.
  • Taking advantage of the specific functions of the new control knobs.

The release of the version of GTA V and GTA Online for the new generation of consoles It will take place on March 15.

GTA V next gen will soften the wait for GTA VI

What can we expect from GTA VI? a little reflection

First of all, I want to make it clear that we still don’t know if GTA VI will be exclusive to the new generation of consoles, a possibility that we had already seen in previous information, or if it will also come to PS4 and Xbox One. It is a title that still has a few years of development ahead of it, I’m inclined to think it’s more likely to end up being a next-gen exclusive, and that Rockstar will continue to “box” in the previous generation with GTA V and GTA Online.

On that basis, if GTA VI arrives as a title developed exclusively for the new generation, we can expect a major technical improvement, and in a broad sense, thanks not only to the greater power of the Xbox Series XS and PS5 at the graphic level, but also thanks to the difference made by both its CPU and its greater amount of unified memory, and also its high-performance SSD drive .

From a technical point of view, GTA VI should recreate a broader city, richer in details, with increased draw distance and perfectly orchestrated element loading, thanks to the SSD, totally lfree from popping problems, and no loading times. All the geometry will be more complex, the textures will be at another level, and we will have more NPCs and vehicles on stage. These should show, in turn, superior AI.

I don’t know if Rockstar will dare to introduce ray tracing, especially since the cost that this has in the new generation of enormous consoles, something that has recently been demonstrated with Dying Light 2, a game that, on Xbox Series X and PS5, works in 1080p and at 30 FPS with ray tracing applied only to shadows and ambient occlusion. This confirms what I’ve been saying for a long time, that ray tracing is great for both consoles.
