Plot and details of the manga Rurouni Kenshin

Japan, Meiji period (1868 – 1912).

Battosai Himura is a ruthless murderer in the service of the proponents of the Meiji Restoration: through his work in Kyoto in the years immediately preceding 1868, the man contributes to the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, but following the establishment of the new government he disappears into thin air .

Ten years later, the wandering samurai Kenshin Himura arrives in the new capital Tokyo: the man immediately learns that in the new peaceful era, no one is allowed to carry a sword, not even samurai.

Kenshin’s katana, however, bears an inverted blade as a sign of the man’s oath not to kill again and to protect as many people as possible from the injustices suffered.

Following the meeting with the young Kaoru Kamiya, a girl with a strong, genuine and independent character and owner of a fencing gym, Kenshin will often find himself involved in fights against other samurai who do not appreciate the new peaceful lifestyle of the country.

Amidst twists and plots for the restoration of the old feudal society, the ghosts of Kenshin’s past will come back to life.

The original manga Rurouni Kenshin by Nobuhiro Watsuki was serialized from 1994 to 1999 and immediately became one of the most popular series of Weekly Shonen Jump. In Italy, Watsuki’s work is published by Star Comics.

The first anime adaptation of 1996 was also a great success and the popularity of the series led to the making of three OVAs, five live action films, novels and light novels.
