Russian Hackers Attack US Airport Websites

The KillNet group, at the dictation of Putin’s rubles, has attacked the websites of the most important airports in the United States. These are massive denial of service (DDoS) attacks that leave the portals inaccessible due to the recharge of computational resources that they entail.

The war in Ukraine continues and there is no sign of a solution. It seems that until Putin wants to or they let him, the international community puts up with the energy frenzy and the Ukrainians are able to repel the aggressor (something that seems to be happening). Or to some insane person (of those who abound in this humanity so little human) to press the button of the apocalypse.

We already said at the time that in the 21st century wars they are not only fought on the ground and cyberspace is another vital area. Here Russia has elements of attack and defense that are cited among the planetary elite. Some are a direct part of their cyber army and others work by commission.

This is the case of KillNet. A pro-Russian group yesterday listed a number of domains on its Telegram channel, where members and volunteers meet to meet new targets. It touched airports such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International and Los Angeles International that are among the most important air traffic hubs in the country. The web pages of both have been inaccessible and others such as Chicago, Orlando, Denver or Phoenix return connection errors.

These errors are typical in DDoS, a relatively easy type of attack to organize if you have enough manpower, since they are based on generate fake requests and targeted junk traffic with the aim of deplete your resources and make them unavailable to legitimate users.

In this case, DDoS attacks do not affect flights, but still have an adverse effect on a crucial economic sector, threatening to disrupt or delay associated services. KillNet has previously targeted other countries that provided support to Ukraine, such as Romania and Italy, while its Legion “subgroup” targeted key Norwegian and Lithuanian entities for similar reasons.

As the war in Ukraine appears to be entering a new phase, Russian hackers will intensify their cyberattacks against key organizations in the Western world.
