The Radeon RX 6500 XT won’t cost the $199 advised by AMD. In France, the graphics card is already displayed at 350 € on certain sites. And that’s just its lowest price. Prices rise to €380, and it’s a safe bet that the rise won’t stop there.
We expected it, but the news does not go better for all that. When AMD presented its brand new graphics card, the Radeon RX 6500 XT, at CES 2022, we naively wanted to believe the price that was then announced, namely $199. It sounded too good to be true, but the GPU’s relatively weak spec sheet might suggest that prices wouldn’t soar (too much).
However, we had enough to see the thing coming. A month before its release already, rumors announced that the RX 6500 XT would be marketed at 379 € in France. So far from the recommended price. Moreover, the shortage of components that has been raging for two years now does not seem to show signs of slowing down. We weren’t mistaken. Last week, the price of 300 € is confirmed. Unfortunately, the situation is still worse than expected.
Count at least 350 € to buy the RX 6500 XT
In 2022, entry-level graphics cards will therefore be purchased at 350 €. This is indeed the price displayed by PC21.fr for the EAGLE model. Of course, this is not the most expensive price that we could find. On AchatNet.fr, the graphics card sells for 378 €. Twice as much as AMD’s recommended price, therefore. Here is a new proof that the prices announced by the manufacturers during the announcements unfortunately do not indicate those which will be practiced during the exit.

The players are of course the first to suffer. For those who have been looking to change graphics cards for months, the choice that is offered is not really one. While the RX 6500 XT is supposed to position itself against the GeForce GTX 1650, also the GPU most used by PC gamers according to Steam, let’s bet without taking too many risks that many of them will not resolve to spend this sum for a model of this stature.
