According to the International Energy Agency’s Global Electric Vehicle Outlook report, electric vehicle sales are expected to grow significantly by 35% globally in 2023.
2022 has been a very good year for electric cars, and it’s no surprise that 2023 looks even better. According to data from the International Energy Agency’s Global Electric Vehicle Outlook report, more than 14 million electric vehicles will be sold by the end of 2023surpassing the previous record of 10 million sales in 2022. If this prediction holds true, it means that electric vehicles will account for around 20% of all new car sales worldwide.
The report states that electric vehicles are “ one of the driving forces of the rapidly emerging new global energy economy and are transforming the automotive manufacturing industry worldwide. AIE Executive Director Fatih Birol also notes that electric buses and trucks will soon follow in the footsteps of electric cars.

Electric cars are experiencing crazy growth in China
Growth in electric vehicles is driven primarily by China, which accounted for 60% of global EV sales in 2022 and is home to more than half of all zero-emission vehicles on the road today. Europe and the United States occupy the second and third places respectively.
The report predicts that by 2030, electric vehicles will account for an average of 60% of total vehicle sales in China, Europe and the United States. The IEA attributes this growth to government programs, such as tax incentives and charging infrastructure, as well as falling prices for small EV models, which will be competitive with combustion engine cars in the coming years. .
Southeast Asia is also promising when it comes to the growth of electric vehicles. The IEA believes that a combination of effective policies and private sector investment will rapidly increase the market share of electric in the future.
In addition, the report highlights the considerable environmental benefits of electric vehicles. If the trend continues, at least 5 million fewer barrels of oil per day will be needed worldwide by 2030.
