According to South Korean sources the Galaxy S22 series failed to meet sales expectations from Samsung. It was expected that this family of terminals would serve to reinforce the company’s position as one of the largest in the world, but in the end the result has not been what said giant had in mind.
Before going into analysis the motives that would have given rise to those sales “below what was expected” let’s see the numbers we havesince this will give us the basis to understand if the situation is really serious, or if it falls within what is acceptable taking into account the world economic situation.
Samsung had sales forecasts of about 30 million units of the Galaxy S22, a figure that in the end has not been able to meet. We do not know how far it has been from that goal, but we can guess that it is not very far, since if so, Samsung would have chosen to take drastic measures to reinforce and improve the next-generation models, which will be included in the Galaxy S23 family.
This is a problem in itself, but the point is that it is not the only thing that Samsung has to take into account. The same sources that have given this information assure that the Galaxy Z Flip4 has not had the expected interest either, and that the Galaxy Z Fold4 has suffered the same fate. All this would have caused Samsung to suffer a 4% reduction in revenue and that its market share was reduced by 0.2%.
They are not numbers that reflect a serious situation, but of course indicate a change in downward trend which could become more pronounced with time. In this sense, we must highlight the change in trend of its flexible terminals, which have been losing interest to such an extent that the Galaxy Z Flip4 has sold less in North America than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip3.
I think the above case could also be due to a change in attitude of consumers, who have lengthened their renewal cyclesand also to the fact that the novelties that the Galaxy Z Flip4 brings compared to the previous model are very small.
Both local South Korean media and analysts from that country believe that Samsung could start to lose its premium brand image, especially since its best-selling terminals have not been the high-end ones for too long. Without going any further, the best-selling model of the South Korean giant is the Galaxy A12, a cheap low-end terminal.
Personally I don’t think this has anything to do with the image of Samsung, and that in the end it is normal for a cheaper smartphone to have very high sales, especially when it is backed by the good image that Samsung has. All in all, it is true that the Galaxy S22 have not had the success of other high-end models from the South Korean giant.
Analysts also believe that the downward sales trend of the Galaxy S22 series will continue throughout the holiday season, and that Samsung will try to maintain prices with the launch of its next generation of smartphones to try to improve sales. If this is true, the Galaxy S23 will have the same sales price as the Galaxy S22.
