Salto joins the Prime Video catalog, the platform is desperate for subscribers

Salto seems to be trying to gain subscribers by all means. While the platform initially positioned itself as a competitor made in France to American services, it will join the Prime Video catalog next May. Subscribers will be able to subscribe to the offer for €6.99/month.

It’s a slight turnaround for Salto, but it would be hypocritical to pretend that we didn’t expect it. Launched in October 2020, Salto was then the spearhead of French streaming, with the clear ambition of overshadowing Netflix and company. A year and a half later, the result is mixed. The platform is struggling to reach one million subscribers, while the competition’s figures continue to soar.

In a troubled context for the French audiovisual sector, based on the takeover of major channels and abandonment by France Télévisions, Salto is therefore still trying to find its place. By renouncing somewhat his first desires. This Tuesday, April 12, we learned that the platform will be available from May 2022 on Prime Video. It’s hard not to see this as a strategy aimed at gaining visibility by taking advantage of that of your new partner.

Salto turns his jacket around and joins forces with Prime Video

That Prime Video is interested in a platform linked to television, on the other hand, is not surprising. For several months now, Amazon’s service has made no secret of its ambition to become a giant in the sector, as evidenced by the purchase of broadcasting rights for Ligue 1 matches and other channels. But on the side of Salto, this is a slight admission of weakness.

Faced with results that do not really live up to expectations, all means are now good to raise the bar and achieve the initial objectives. Note, however, that Salto retains its integrity. Although offered on the Prime Video catalog, it will nevertheless cost €6.99/month more to subscribe to a subscription. Users who are tempted will be able to benefit from a 30-day free trial.
