Samsung Bixby is approaching its sunset

The competition between voice assistants is really fierce, and those responsible for Samsung Bixby are fully aware of this. We are talking about a market in which Siri, Alexa and Google’s voice assistant share the vast majority of the cake, leaving only a few crumbs for the rest of the technology companies that, with their own proposals, try to provide more diversity with different approaches, diverse integration solutions, etc.

This, personally, seems very positive to me, because the greater the variety of offers, the more chances of finding the one that best suits your needs. Of course, this does not mean that the market should be saturated with options, since that is not positive either, since normally in many of these cases most of them do not contribute anything in particular either and, therefore, only contribute confusion to the process of selection by users.

The problem, of course, is that the work carried out by Amazon, Apple and Google is simply exceptional. The AI-based voice assistants developed by these three technologies have set the ceiling very high, and to this we must add that due to their preponderant positions in the market they are, for many users, the first option if they have the possibility to choose. Conditions in which to compete are terribly complicated.

Samsung Bixby is approaching its sunset

And such seems to be the situation of Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant that debuted at the beginning of 2017 with the Samsung Galaxy S7, and that arrived in our country almost two years later, at the end of 2018. During these years, Samsung has worked to encourage more users to use this assistant, but practically from the beginning it was possible to verify that its adoption was a minority, so the Korean technology company has been cutting its mark on the devices, such as by eliminating the physical button that it offered shortcut to Bixby.

And now, as we can read in Android Police, there is already some signs that Samsung is thinking of ending BixbyGiven the impossibility of achieving that it can compete face to face with the main voice assistants, both in market share and also in efficiency, because according to what some people who have used it tell me, without being bad, it does not quite reach the height of other options.

The problem is that managing a voice assistant system provides a lot of information about the users, something that is more than interesting for the companies responsible for these services. This. Of course, it is the reason why many companies are interested in this sector, and also why they decide to maintain their efforts even when things do not seem to be going well. But, of course, in these cases the situation cannot be prolonged indefinitely, sooner or later the time comes to close. Will it be the case of Bixby in 2023? It is still too early to say, but of course we cannot rule it out.
